Cesenatico
The picturesque Cesenatico, also called the “Pearl of the Adriatic Coast, is a delight for its visitors in all seasons. The delightful fishing village is in Emilia Romagna, between Rimini and Ravenna. The port is the proud of the municipality, the design is attributed to the famous Leonardo da Vinci. The local openair naval museum, a collection of historical boats with magnificent traditional antique sails, remains unique.
The Harbor
The port of Cesenatico was built in 1314, and was designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Thanks to its shape, it is effectively protected against shipping. The Cesenatico port canal became a travel destination and a haven for many ships and boats.
With hisits strategic position it has been destroyed by enemy cities many times in the past. The city’s landmark today is the open-air museum of ancient ships.
The navy museum
Consists of a collection of eight historical boats from the central and northern Adriatic. The old barges were restored true to the original and provided with the original colorful sails. Each sail bears the coat of arms of an earlier resident family.
Sport
Cesenatico is particularly known to cyclists. Ideal starting point for technically demanding routes in unforgettable settings. Marco Pantani was born in Cesenatico and trained for years in his home town. The world-famous race “Nove Colli” takes place every year, in which thousands of cyclists from all over the world take part. The hilly green hinterland is also suitable for mountain bike lovers.
